Mohammad Abdo

An ambitious, problem-solving oriented engineer with more than 3 years of experience in microsystems engineering. Worked on different research projects including inertia sensors, micro-fluidic dispensing systems, and energy harvesting.

Skilled in design and construction of engineering systems, mask design for micro-fabrication, and having hands-on experience with micro-fabrication and clean room technologies including deep reactive ion etching (DRIE), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and photolithography.

Interested in sensors, micro-fluidics, energy harvesting, and micro-fabrication. My interests also include automation and robotics. I also have a passion for the communication and popularization of science in society through media and through interactive public events.

Jan 2013 - present

Senior Specialist of Science Communication

Physics Department, School of Sciences and Engineering

American University in Cairo (AUC)

  • Planned and organized more than 20 events for science outreach inside and outside AUC campus including: the Wonders of Physics Show, the Planetarium Show, the Science Bites, the Young Scientists Camp, and the Physics Fun Lab sessions for the Youth Summer Program.

  • Delivered science outreach events to more than 850 students and adults in 4 Egyptian governorates: Cairo, Giza, North Sinai and Red Sea.

  • Managed communication with schools, public libraries, and NGO’s in addition to AUC’s internal departments for organization of science outreach activities.

  • Managed the cooperation with the Egyptian National Scientific and Technical Information Network (ENSTINET) to organize the science outreach activities during the youth summer programs in Al-Arish and Hurghada cities
